Oakland Green Jobs Corps
If you want to work with your hands, solve technical problems and contribute to your community, the Oakland Green Jobs Corps may be the program for you!
The Oakland Green Jobs Corps trains East Bay residents in technical skills for energy efficiency, water conservation and renewable energy. Students will learn skills for:
- Energy Auditing: Evaluate buildings for opportunities to save energy while improving the indoor experience for occupants
- Energy Efficiency Upgrades: Retrofit buildings to improve energy efficiency with measures such as insulation, weather stripping, duct sealing and efficient lighting
- Water Conservation: Install water efficiency equipment and systems such as low flow fixtures, greywater and rain water systems
- Renewable Energy: Install solar systems
Students must be available to participate in classes from 8am-4pm Monday-Friday for 6 months. Graduates will receive a $600 stipend upon completion of the course of study.

- Physics for Building Science
- Construction Rehabilitation
- Technical Math for ECT
- Customer Service for the Building Trades
- Energy Efficiency & Weatherization
- Green Construction Techniques and Materials
- The Sustainable Built Environment
- Energy Management and Efficiency in Buildings
- Measurement of Building Energy Efficiency
- Energy Auditing and Computer Analysis of Building Efficiency
- Lighting Efficiency Technology
Field learning opportunities to install solar, greywater and rainwater systems are available on weekends.
Graduates of this 6 month program will be prepared for employment in the growing green building sector. Accepting applications now for the summer/fall session of the Oakland Green Jobs Corps. Applications are due in June, 2010. Classes begin in July, 2010.
